The Update Process
Renewing the existing plan is a complex process.
The University has determined that the update will be framed within these
parameters:
-
Incorporate academic, strategic and enrollment
planning with the physical master plan;
-
Incorporate those projects currently in
design or under construction without interrupting the building delivery
process;
-
Assess the land resource capacity of the
campus and relate it to the academic needs;
-
Understand that the process is as important
as the product and establish a planning
process that engages the campus, community, and city as partners;
-
Reinvigorate the initiatives that deal
with open space and the campus fabric and
thoroughly investigate realistic funding sources. Involve regional planners
in regional initiatives such as transportation and drainage and cooperatively
arrive at solutions;
-
Consider the academic and physical needs
of the campus components and those of the
remote campuses holistically to identify both individual needs and cross
disciplinary
collocation opportunities; and,
-
Incorporate existing knowledge about facilities
and infrastructure conditions to the
extent that these conditions influence the responsible capacity of the
land resource.
Campus and Facilities Planning has retained
the firm of Ayers/Saint/Gross to assist in this update. This nationally
recognized firm has been providing architectural and planning services since
1915. It specializes in college and university buildings and grounds. To

Campus
& Community Input
The broadest possible participation is vital
to the success of the Plan. Workshops, town hall meetings, and a web site
will all be utilized to facilitate feedback. Committees will be formed to
provide assistance. It is important that the campus community, neighborhoods,
alumni, local government units, and local organizations be involved. Participation
opportunities are forthcoming and will be widely advertised.
