University and Community Interface

The University is an integral part of the larger community of Tucson and is bordered on all sides by established, predominately residential neighborhoods.  Below is information on campus planning activities and processes at the university-community interface.

The Campus Community Relations Committee (CCRC) includes representatives from neighborhoods surrounding the UA who meet monthly with UA staff to discuss issues and topics of common concern. Primary staffing of the CCRC is provided by the Office of Community Relations.  One example of collaborative planning between the University, City of Tucson, and the surrounding neighborhood was the "joint planning process" of 1995-96 which resulted in the South Campus Area Plan

The University participates on many committees and studies sponsored by neighboring jurisdictions. Formal communication between jurisdictions is coordinated through the Office of Community Relations. For example, the University participates on Pima Association of Governments (PAG) Transportation Planning Committee and Environmental Planning Advisory Committee.  The University has extensive involvement with City of Tucson departments, such as Transportation Planning and Urban Planning and Design on projects and concerns of mutual interest.
